Beaches near to San Juan del Sur

Though San Juan del Sur is the most popular beach resort in Nicaraua, some of the best beaches are actually north and south of the town.

All of the surf beaches are easily visited with one of the daily jeep- taxi services in the town.

Here are our recommended beaches:

Maderas- Probably the most popular surf break in Nicaragua with a sandy beach break and consistent waves. About 15 mins drive from San Juan del Sur.

Majagual - A 30 minute drive north of San Juan del Sur. White sand and amazing sunsets.

Marsella One of the prettiest beaches on the Pacific Coast is only a 20 minute drive north of San Juan del Sur. A great beach for safe swimming. 

Playa El Coco- El Coco Beach is a long sandy beach with vegetation growing right up to the sand edge. It is great for swimming and is also a good beach to see turtles come ashore to lay eggs.

Restaurants in San Juan del Sur

Our favorite restaurant in San Juan del Sur is El Colibri. Great ambience, pretty setting, big portions of Mediteranean style food, near the church.

El Pozo has great fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and the bar serves perhaps the best cocktails in San Juan del Sur.

The best seafood restaurant in town is El Timon.

Bambu Beach serves wonderful Asian inspired dishes like dorado in a orange and chilli sauce.

 

Activities in San Juan del Sur

• Go sportfishing or take a boat trip along the nearby coast stopping off for a swim and beach picnic.
• Surf at nearby Playa Gigante, Maderas.
• Party like it´s 1999!
• La Flor Wildlife Reserve south of San Juan del Sur is the beach to see turtles that come ashore in their thousands from August to December. The beach is beautiful and is an easy walk from Playa El Coco
